Fitness & Rehabilitation Services

We have been using hydrotherapy and acupuncture, on top of our first line consultations and our in house orthopaedic referral service, and now, with the addition of our rehabilitation consultations, we can truly offer an all round package for your dog.

Rehabilitation consultations are particularly helpful in soft tissue injuries , orthopaedic and neurological cases, for arthritic patients, for amputees and to enhance competitive performance of sporting dogs.

Pete Van Dongen (Drs.(Utrecht), CertVR, MRCVS) is now a qualified Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT), after a three year post graduate course from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. Pete has trained in the diagnosis and treatment of sporting injuries, rehabilitation techniques (including manual therapies, LASER, ultrasound, TENs/NMEs) and in the development of unique exercise programmes to aid a full and speedy recovery.

As Pete is one of only ten qualified CCRTs in the UK currently we are pleased to be able to offer this state of the art service. This achievement is alongside Pete being Clinical Director, holding a certificate in radiology and his 25years of experience and with his wealth of knowledge as a competitor, judge and instructor in agility. Pete was Crufts Agility Winner in 2001 and he was the British Team vet for the Agility World Championships 9 times.

Rehabilitation consultations can be arranged with Pete, for a 45 minute session initially, for a thorough assessment of the patient. We welcome dogs from all sporting/working backgrounds including agility, obedience, flyball, gun dogs, rescue and assistance dogs.

Here as some of the comments from clients that have had an appointment;

'I just wanted to say how glad I am that I took my dog Buzz to Pennard Vets. We had the most lovely welcome from the staff in reception. We were then greeted by the lovely Kayleigh who is in-house hydrotherapist and then I was introduced to Pete Van Dongen who gave Buzz a thorough examination. Pete was brilliant and spent a lot of time on Buzz. To say that he was thorough would be an understatement and I cannot thank him enough and a brilliant team for the wonderful care that they lavished on Buzz. Now I know what I know now, I wouldn't go anywhere else than Pennard Vets as they are clearly at the top of their game in Canine Sports Rehabilitation and have a genuine passion and understanding for agility. Pennard Vets are second to none!’
